Snake · Skin is a short silent film based on a poem by Sonia. The work centers on Reina Kali, a character and artist persona who survives a near-death experience and emerges transformed, sharing her journey through death, rebirth, and self-reclamation.
Conceived as a precursor to a larger body of narrative work, Snake · Skin introduces creative and autobiographical threads that continue throughout Sonia's projects, including explorations of her Salvadoran, Indo-Guyanese, and Brooklynite identities, experiences of gender-based violence, and the artistic process itself.
The first of these larger-scale works is The Mirrors We Face.
